This qualification in Mathematics is built from a number of small units at each level. Each unit is underpinned by the national standards for adult numeracy (QCA 2005) and mapped to the Adult Numeracy Core Curriculum (DfES 2001, revised 2006-7 and updated 2009). The units have also been mapped to the Functional Skills standards and where appropriate to the GCSE grade descriptions for Mathematics. This Mathematics qualification covers:

Achievement is therefore determined by successful completion of unit assessment with no further requirement for additional/summative assessment.
What related qualifications can the candidates progress to?
This qualification allows learners to progress through a framework of Mathematics units and qualifications from Entry 1 to Entry Level 2. They have been designed to allow flexibility as well as clear progression opportunities and enable learners to follow highly personalised programmes. What does the qualification cover?
The qualification purpose is to give learners knowledge and understanding and an introduction to the skills required in health and Care to support progression to employment to an apprenticeship or to further study at a higher level. This qualification is intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to the health and care sector, equipping learners with underpinning knowledge and skills specific to the sector alongside a range of transferable employability skills. This is designed to support progression to further learning and ultimately to work in health and care or other related sectors.
The employability skills and bitesize English and maths units are common across a number of qualifications, enabling easy transfer of credits between qualifications and supporting opportunities for cross-faculty working. This qualification in Health and Care link to the National Occupational Standards for Health and Social Care. They provide some of the underpinning knowledge and practical skills that will support progression to a relevant competency-based qualification.
This qualification provides a range of basic, introductory skills, as well as core knowledge, relevant to health and care, alongside generic employability skills which are needed both in the health and care sector and across other sectors. Mandatory units include:
- Working in Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Effective Communication in Health and Social Care and Child Care
- Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings

Optional units include knowledge and skills relevant to different job roles in the sector (such as disability awareness, communication in health and social care, healthy diets) alongside generic employability skills (such as self-management skills and working in at team). It is anticipated that this qualification will be of specific relevance to:
- Young people interested in a career in the health and care sector who intend, but are not yet ready, to access level 1 qualifications.

Young people and adults, including those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, who wish to work in the health and social care sector but need a grounding in the subject and an opportunity to develop more general workplace skills, usually over a one year period, before applying for work.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no prior skills, knowledge or understanding requirements for these qualifications. However, learners will benefit from having functional skills or equivalent, at least at one level below that of the qualification (e.g. at least Entry 3 for the Level 1 qualifications).
How is it assessed?
The qualification will be awarded to learners who successfully achieve an approved combination of units through a Portfolio of Evidence that has been successfully verified and monitored through Awarding Body Quality Assurance process. Achievement is therefore determined by successful completion of unit assessment with no further requirement for additional/summative assessment.
What related qualifications can the candidates progress to?
This qualification is designed to enable progression into further learning at the same level (e.g. from an certificate to a diploma) or to further learning at a higher level (e.g. from Entry 3 to Level 1). The strong focus on transferable employability skills means that learners could move within or between sectors as they progress. Some learners may be able to progress directly into employment, particularly where work-based training will be offered, but it is expected that most learners will build on the skills and knowledge gained from these qualifications through further learning before entering employment.

Learners must complete at least three mandatory units from Group M, totalling 9 credits. In addition, they must complete a minimum of 3 credits from Group O1 (Optional units - Health and Care) and 6 further credits from either Group O1 or Group O2 (Optional units - Employability Skills, English and Maths). What does the qualification cover?
This is a broad Digital and Creative Industries qualification that supports progression to a number of level 3 programmes including: Games Design or Games Development, IT or Creative Media or the Arts. The qualification provides learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours in a variety of areas in the digital and creative industries. Centres may build a programme that supports different progression routes including those where digital skills are essential to support the creative process.
The qualifications offer progression from the Level 1 Creative Industries Qualification. They are broad Digital and Creative Industries qualifications that support progression to a number of level 3 programmes including: Games Design or Games Development, IT or Creative Media or the Arts. The qualifications are graded to support progression to level 3 and is assessed through a portfolio of evidence.
Learners have the opportunity to carry out a project that brings together learning from across the qualification. The qualifications were developed in conjunction with the FE sector.

What does the qualification cover?
The aims of all qualifications in the BTEC First suite in Hospitality are to:
- inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the Hospitality sector
- give learners the opportunity to gain broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the hospitality industry, such as marketing and promotion, cooking, food and beverage service, and accommodation service or finance
- support progression to specialised Level 3 qualifications in Hospitality, or to an Apprenticeship
- give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment in a wide range of job roles.
Specific aims of the BTEC First Certificate in Hospitality are to:
- add breadth to learners’ knowledge and understanding of the Hospitality sector as part of their career progression and development plans
- support learners who have had some achievement in their Key Stage 4 programme and who wish to ‘top up’ their Level 2 achievement to progress to employment or other qualifications.
This qualification includes four mandatory units that form the fundamental knowledge and understanding of hospitality principles, and which appear in all four sizes of the qualification. The Certificate includes a choice of optional specialist units, thereby providing an opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the Hospitality sector. In addition, it introduces a limited number of specialist areas and the opportunity to acquire some of the practical skills identified by employers as the fundamental building blocks for future competence in the workplace.

How is it assessed?
The Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Hospitality include two externally-assessed units. This will help learners as they progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to related academic qualifications. The remaining units are internally assessed. Internal assessment allows learners to develop a wider range of skills and provides evidence towards meeting the unit assessment criteria.
Evidence for assessment can be generated through a range of activities, including role play, practical performance and verbal presentations. Our delivery strategies reflect the nature of work in the Hospitality sector by encouraging learners to research and carry out assessment in the workplace, or in simulated working conditions, wherever possible. It will be beneficial to learners to use local examples, wherever possible, and for your centre to engage with local employers for support and input. This allows a more realistic and motivating basis for learning and can start to ensure that learning serves the needs of local areas. We encourage learners to take responsibility for their own learning and achievement, taking account of the industry standards for behaviour and performance.
What related qualifications can the candidates progress to?
One of the main purposes of BTEC qualifications is to help learners to progress, ultimately, to employment. Employers require learners to have certain technical skills, knowledge and understanding, but they also require employees to demonstrate employability skills. These skills enable learners to adapt to the roles needed to survive in the global economy and enhance their effectiveness in the workplace.
The BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Hospitality provides the knowledge, skills and understanding for Level 2 learners to progress to:
- other Level 2 vocational qualifications and related competence-based qualifications for the Hospitality sector
- Level 3 vocational qualifications, such as BTEC Nationals, specifically the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National in Hospitality.
What is the qualification structure?
The Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Hospitality is taught over 240 guided learning hours (GLH). It has mandatory and optional specialist units. Learners must complete the four mandatory units and a choice of optional specialist units If a learner has already achieved a BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award qualification, they may carry forward their unit results for use in larger BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First qualifications within the same industry.

What does the qualification cover?
This qualification is aimed at practising or aspiring managers will supervise or manage a team to achieve clearly defined outcomes. They will set and monitor goals and objectives by providing instruction, direction and guidance. Day to day operational and project activities are a key part of their role. The qualification has been designed for practising or aspiring managers in roles such as:
- Team Leader
- Supervisor
- Project Officer
- Shift Manager
- Foreperson
Extensive research has been undertaken to ensure that these qualifications reflect tasks and activities of managers in the aforementioned roles in the workplace. Sources of information include, but are not limited to:

Awarding bodies do not specify entry requirements for this qualification, but we are required to ensure that Learners admitted to the programme have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment. We must ensure Learners are recruited with integrity onto appropriate qualifications that will:
- meet their needs
- enable and facilitate learning and achievement
- enable progression
How is it assessed?
The qualifications will be awarded to learners who successfully achieve an approved combination of units through a Portfolio of Evidence that has been successfully verified and monitored through Awarding Organisation Quality Assurance process. What related qualifications can the candidates progress to?

What does the qualification cover?
The content of this qualification has been designed to ensure it supports progression towards higher study. In addition, employers and professional bodies have been involved in order to confirm that the content is also appropriate for those interested in working in the sector. Learners taking this qualification will study six mandatory units:

- Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs

- Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care
- Promoting Public Health.
Learners can select two optional units that cover the biological or sociological topics relevant to the different parts of the sector to support their progression to specialised degree programmes in the sector.

Who is it suitable for?
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Health and Social Care accounts for two-thirds of a two-year, full-time study programme for learners who are intending to go onto further study in a related sector. It is intended as an Applied General qualification, and is equivalent in size to two A Levels. The qualification supports access to a range of higher education courses, in health and social care disciplines, if taken alongside further Level 3 qualifications.

Awarding bodies do not specify entry requirements for this qualification, but we are required to ensure that Learners admitted to the programme have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment. How is it assessed?
Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector. There are three main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of: external, internal and synoptic.
